I was 15 years old battling an eating disorder when my best friend's mom gave me a VHS tape of a lady in a white leotard teaching yoga. I tried it but I was not ready to embrace the practice in its fullest until my early 20's. It was then when I found yoga to be a place to clear my mind, restore my soul, and not only to strengthen my physical body, but also to make peace with the body that I punished for way too long.
Why do you teach & practice yoga?
I practice and teach yoga because it has been instrumental in my mental, physical and emotional health. Yoga has a way to make time stand still for me.
Who is your greatest yoga influence or inspiration?
Children because they keep me present and full of wonder, elders because they see the big picture and have a way of helping me trust that everything will be okay, my faith in Jesus because His love and compassion in humanity humbles me and current teachers like Jon Kabit-Zinn, Tara Brach, Richard Rohr, David Romanelli, Dr. Dan Siegel and too many yoga teachers to list here, if you are my friend and teach yoga, you always inspire me.
What does it mean to be a "Mountain Soul?"
Mountain Soul reminds me of the saying by C.S. Lewis, -"You do not have a soul. You are a soul. You have a body.” Our bodies represent the mountains, the tangible, the physical; whereas our souls represent the breath, the spirit, our very essence. To be a "Mountain Soul" is to stand strong with an open heart and mind.
Describe your favorite day.
From the mountains to the sea, it's hard to choose! A hike on a bluebird 70' day with my husband, sons and dogs or chilling on the beach, reading and soaking up the sun with family and friends, followed by an afternoon cup of coffee to a glass of wine at sunset! Both are slices of heaven for me.
