I was 15 years old battling an eating disorder when my best friend's mom gave me a VHS tape of a lady in a white leotard teaching yoga. I tried it but I was not ready to embrace the practice in its fullest until my early 20's. It was then when I found yoga to be a place to clear my mind, restore my soul and strengthen my physical body. This practice ignited a deep connection to my catholic upbringing and increased my faith to make peace and forgive the body I once punished.
Why do you teach & practice yoga?
Yoga has a way to make time stand still for me. I practice because it gives me space to breathe and nourish the relationship between my mind and body connection. I teach because I believe as a collective, the more we get quiet and fill up our own wells, the more energy we will have to make the world a better place.
Who is your greatest yoga influence or inspiration?
Children because they keep me present and full of wonder and elders because they see the big picture and have a way of reminding me to trust that everything will be okay. I am forever grateful for the teachers who have poured into my teachers, who have poured and continue to pour into me.
What does it mean to be a "Mountain Soul?"
Mountain Soul reminds me of the saying by C.S. Lewis, -"You do not have a soul. You are a soul. You have a body.”
Describe your favorite day.
Soaking up the sun from either the mountains or the sea, it's hard to choose! A hike on a bluebird 70' day with my people and dogs or reading and chilling on the beach with those I love. From the mountains to the sea, whichever where I am, it will start by watching the sunrise with a warm cup of coffee in my hands to winding down my day with a nightcap staring at the sunset, slowly sipping a glass of red. Both are slices of heaven for me.
