In a certain way, yoga has always been a part of my life. As a young girl I practiced postures with my mama, but I wouldn't link the movements to the wisdom teachings until much later in life. Devotion to the practice found me in the late 1990's when I was studying Outdoor Recreation Leadership and went to work for the Colorado Outward Bound School. Some of the other guides would get up early and start the day with yoga. Inspired by their energy, I joined in. Standing poses at 14,000 feet, backbends in the Canyonlands, and hip openers beside the Colorado River: these are the kinds of experiences that make a lasting relationship.
Why do you teach & practice yoga?
I practice yoga to remember my True Nature. I teach to remind others of their True Nature.
Who is your greatest yoga influence or inspiration?
My mama lived the wisdom of yoga in every day life. She was my greatest inspiration. I am also grateful to my teachers: Sreedevi Bringi, Marion Woodman and Pema Chodron for sharing the wisdom teachings and connecting the physical practice with deeper layers of psyche and spirit. I have been influenced by the alignment savvy of Anusara, the simple sincerity of Mark Whitwell and the creative courage of Shiva Rea.
What does it mean to be a "Mountain Soul?"
A mountain soul is one who is attuned with the rhythms of nature. Like the sacred mountains of Indian mythology, they stand for centered awareness. They courageously hold the balance of all things that seem to be opposite and follow the path of the middle way. Mountain souls live in celebration of life and creative freedom.
Describe your favorite day.
I love any adventure with my family. It may be a mountain hike or an ocean swim, or driving cross-country on a road-trip. ...or you might find me taking a solo retreat to some remote hotsprings.
